After the dress drive, the search was on for a new project. We had a solid and fun idea.. but in the end the future of this project is not looking too good. While brainstorming, we looked at past projects and ran across New Pals Pals. Lydia had been wanting to do a project with animals and we thought we could take a couple ideas from this project and make it our own. New Pals Pals was a pet adoption day held at the United Methodist Church where an animal shelter came and was kind of a pet adoption day, that also had some vendors. For example, they also had a food truck. We thought that we could take this project and turn it up a notch. The plan was to hold a pet adoption day and invite a few animal shelters who could bring some dogs and cats and then also invite dog vendors like who make treats or clothes.. anything relating to pets. These past couple weeks have included making a name, making flyers, finding a location, and contacting vendors and animal shelters. We contacted the office manager at the United Methodist Church to see if we could host our event there. After a couple days they had gotten back to us and were pleased to let us know that we could use their property as long as we paid the $65 service fee. We then continued to make a flyer for the event. We named it, The Dragon Pet Wagon. Rylie used her interactive media skills and made an adorable flyer to use once all of the details were finalized. The next step was to contact animal shelters and potential vendors to see if they would be interested in being involved with our day. Lydia contacted the SouthSide Animal Shelter and they informed us that they would be unable to attend. Rylie contacted the Frenzy Animal Rescue and they failed to respond, as did the Nutty Mutt Bakery whom I contacted, and as well as the Lucky Dog Retreat whom was contacted by Alex. Luke contacted the Hancock County Humane Society and their response was less than promising, as they needed a lot more information and were concerned because they can't do one-day adoption. After a week waiting for replies we tried to move forward but realized it was hard to do without any vendors or animals. We then discussed that many people probably wouldn't just adopt a dog because we were having this day. Between unpromising amount of vendors and the reality of the number of people that would actually show up, the group decided we should try something new and disband this project. Although this project didn't work out, many lessons were still learned. We still got to practice our communication skills and plan a potential event. Plus, just as in the real world, some things just don't work out.
